Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. She was named by her parents in honor of the town where she was raised in. Michel Horowitz' father was editor and author and editor, as was Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder's mother and father have both been Jewish. Ryder believes herself to being Jewish. The actress is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Ryder's younger sister is Uria. Ryder as well as her entire family relocated to California's Mendocino County, when Ryder was seven. In Mendocino County, they did not have electricity. Ryder was a consummate reader and spent her time studying books since she had no television. Ryder started to take acting classes at the American Conservatory Theatre when she reached the age of 12. Lucas the film, which was released in 1986, was her first major character. Ryder was just fifteen when she landed the role. Ryder was bullied at high school. She thought that by becoming an actor, her bullying was going to be corrected. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Still, she kept chasing the dreams she had. Beetlejuice, a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first major breakthrough. Ryder was able to continue playing characters that made a splash in several movies. In 1993 she won an Oscar Award to be awarded for The Age of Innocence.
