Hennessy showcased her talents in films that were independent, like Chutney Popcorn or The Acting Class. Hennessy's acting career began in 1988 when she along with her twin sister were the Callgirls on Dead Ringers. The actress briefly appeared in Buddy The Buddy Holly Story The Buddy Holly Story in Broadway in 1990. Then, in 1993 she left the realm of musicals, and into the science-fiction genre, playing Doctor. Marie Lazarus. She got her big break after the season ended in the form of a role as Assistant District Attorney Claire Kincaid on the hit NBC drama Law & Order.
