Selena
She's a performer and musician, and designer. Her double role as a Mexican American star was both modern and traditional. She brought Tejano to mainstream fame in an innovative way. Her untimely death splintered her popularity in the spotlight and like many times when a bright deeply genial superstar dies young, she made many grieve the potential she had not yet tapped into. In the following years, Selena's fans were pushed to work even harder in order to ensure that her successes would not fade away. The tragic death by shooting of Tejano singer Selena spawned a reaction within the Latino community that could be likened to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities across North America her music crossed cultural boundaries to touch those of youth and old alike. Selena, a sexy and flamboyant stage performer who is sometimes referred to as Latina Madonna, was also a model offstage. She was active with anti-drug campaigning.
